Penny German

As Penelope J. Cooper, she was born at Felixstowe, Suffolk in 1962. Penny studied Foundation and Graphic Design at Ipswich School of Art and at North Oxfordshire School of Art, gaining her B.A. Fine Art. Penny married at Ipswich in 1982 Robert C. German and now paints under the name of Penny German. She specialised in botanical illustration in watercolour, working on projects for the Royal Horticultural Society and Oxford University Press. A few years ago, she discovered a love of oil painting and has since been working to capture the effects of light in still life and portraits. She currently spends more time on larger paintings but still produces small oil sketches as a regular discipline and exhibited at the Southwold Gallery in Suffolk. She now lives in Towcester, Northamptonshire and is a full member of the Northampton Town and County Art Society and an associate member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, she also exhibits regularly with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at the Mall Galleries and at Chelsea Art Society at Chelsea Town Hall.
