EVANS, Hilary
As Hilary J. A. Punchard, she was born at Edmonton, London in 1942, daughter of Laurence Charles Edward Punchard (1908-1984) and his wife Nellie May née Hannocks (9 November 1909-1 November 2010), who married St Michael & All Angels, Westcliff-on-Sea on 22 December 1935. Hilary married at Wood Green, London in 1961, Christopher R. Evans and, as an illustrator, has worked in partnership with her husband Christopher for most of her career. They lived at Eye, Suffolk and she enrolled in a printmaking class to learn the intricacies of etching and the graphic qualities of lino printing. Having gained experience of the various techniques she was able to explore her own ideas, preferring pattern and colour, finding the natural world an area of inspiration as well as building structures and landscape. She enjoys building layers and textures onto card to make a collagraph plate being her preferred method of printing, also the different processes of making an etching plate absorbing. She usually produces individual prints in a variety of colours rather than print editions and exhibits with the Walsham Arts & Crafts Group.
