HUTCHINSON, Hutch
James Loken Hutchinson was born in Surrey in 1981. 'Hutch' as he is known, is a British artist and illustrator who studied Fine Art at St Martin's School of Art, University of the Arts, London 2000-2004. A former art teacher at Ipswich School and is now Head of Art at Woodbridge School, Suffolk. He is inspired by Cézanne in his paintings and drawings, to achieve a balance between looking and observation and his oil paintings use colour more expressively but is moving on from this influence. His interest is in the changing seasons, the colours, and the sensation of being outside, spending most of his time in woods looking through trees to the sky looking through branches to make a fragmented view. Artist in residence at Helmingham Hall Gardens in Suffolk 2013 and has had solo exhibitions at Vortex Jazz Bar Gallery, 11 Gillett Square, Stoke Newington, London; Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London; The JLV Gallery, Cambridge Heath Road, London with local shows at North House Gallery, Manningtree, Essex; Ipswich School Festival of Music with mixed shows in London, Norwich, Ipswich, Aldeburgh, Manningtree and abroad in Tuscany, Italy. He now [2019] lives in Woodbridge, Suffolk with his wife Colette Smith, a photographic artist & visual designer, and their son.
