Benjamin Sullivan

Benjamin Christian Sullivan was born at Grimsby, Lincolnshire on 10 May 1977, son of artist Niall J. Sullivan (born 1958) and his wife Una B. née Bratton (born 1957), who married at Louth, Lincolnshire in 1977. Benjamin was educated at Priestlands School, Lymington and studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1997-2000 graduating with a B.A. (hons.) degree. A painter in oil and a printmaker and is a Member of the New English Art Club and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. In 2009 he became artist in residence at All Souls College, Oxford, where he undertook a large commission depicting College staff. The resulting work 'The All Souls Triptych' was displayed at the Ashmolean Museum in 2012 and is now at All Souls College and his painting of a nursing mother, won the £30,000 BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in 2017, the portrait is of his wife and baby daughter. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from Haverhill, Suffolk also showing at the Royal Scottish Academy, the National Portrait Gallery and at Mall Galleries.
