MOSTYN, Sarah Ellen
Sarah Ellen Mostyn was born at Braintree, Essex in April 1863, eldest daughter of Revd John Mostyn (1828-1897) of Ipswich, formerly of Amlywch, Anglesey, a Baptist Minister, and his wife Sarah née Cowell, who married at Saffron Walden, Essex in 1862. Sarah studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 gained her certificate in freehand drawing and matriculated with honours from the University of London in 1882, a classmate was Mary Amelia Chevallier. In 1891 the family were living at London Road, Ipswich, 62-year-old John and 53-year-old Sarah, with their other children Herbert Llewellyn 26, Sidney Gwenffrwd 24 and Ada Annie 21, all born at Braintree. Sarah had married at St Mary Stoke Church, Ipswich on 13 August 1890, Charles Herbert-Smith, LL.D., (1862-7 January 1944) barrister-at-law of Gray's Inn, London. Sarah Ellen Mostyn Herbert-Smith died at 25 Pauls Road, Overstrand, Norfolk on 31 January 1946.
