MALLETT, Caroline
Caroline Mallett was born at 137 Fore Hamlet, St Clement's, Ipswich in 1860, daughter of William Mallett (1835-1924), a whitesmith & bell house, and his wife Mary née Moore (1833-1916). Caroline studied at the Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 passed out with a certificate of excellence in Model Drawing. In 1881, a 20-year-old schoolteacher, living at North Side of Waterworks Street, Ipswich with her parents, William 46, now a lawn mower fitter, and Mary 48, with five siblings, Walter 24 who was born at Southwold, Suffolk, William 18, Elizabeth 16, Frederick 10 and George 12, all born at Ipswich. Caroline married at Ipswich in 1883, Arthur Girling Ray (1853-1928), who was born at Dedham, Essex and in 1891 a 30-year-old, living at Fore Street, Ipswich with her 37-year-old husband Arthur, a hardware merchant. By 1901, they had moved to Montgomery Villa, Upland Gate, St Clement's, Ipswich where her husband was now an income tax collector and in 1911, they were living at 35 Felixstowe Road Ipswich. Caroline Ray died at Ipswich in 1936.
