MALLETT, Wilfred Theobald
Wilfred Theobold Mallett was born at Ipswich on 4 July 1895, eldest of the three children of Frederick George Mallett (11 May 1868-8 March 1936), a carrying manager, and his wife Sarah née Theobald (1866-14 October 1949), who married at Needham Market, Suffolk in 1893. In 1911, Wilfred was an apprentice in an engineer's drawing office, living at Montgomery Villa, Bishop's Hill, Ipswich with his parents, 42-year-old Frederick, a manager in a shipping company, and 43-year Sarah and two sibling sisters, Madge Elfrida 12 and Olive Mary 9. Wilfred was a painter in oil and watercolour of flowers, still life and landscapes and a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1935-1952 and a regular annual exhibitor showing 32 works 1933-1950, exhibiting from Mahama, 12 Cradock Avenue, Great Yarmouth in 1933, two pictures 'Hay Wains' and a watercolour 'Geranium', in 1935 three pictures 'Pewter and Petals', 'Midsummer Mist' and 'The Old Road', in 1936 three items two oils 'Summer Blooms' and 'Spring' and a watercolour 'Tea Roses', in 1937 'The Kissing Gate', 'Green Pastures, Needham' and 'March Dawn' and in 1938, 'The Farm Road, Needham' and 'June Blooms', in 1941 three pictures 'The Waveney at Burgh Castle', 'Still Life' and 'Badley', in 1942 'Full Summer, South Norfolk', 'Rhododendrons, Corton Garden' and 'Afternoon, Corton', in 1943 'Morning, Raven's Bridge, Needham Market' and 'Norfolk Mill', in 1944 two oils 'The Blue Road' and 'The Gleam, Filby Broad'. Wilfred married at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk on 18 June 1931, Mary Hannah Myhill (1 November 1898-4 January 1990), but had no issue. Wilfred Theobold Mallett died at 135 Belvedere Road, Ipswich on 24 March 1971.
