LINDSAY, Thomas

1794 - 1861

Thomas Lindsay was born at Alnwick, Northumberland on 13 January 1794 and baptised on 31 December 1794, second son of William Lindsay, a grocer of Alnwick, and his wife Ann née Mills, who married at Alnwick on 28 June 1791. Thomas married at St Pancras Old Church, London on 24 September 1822, Mary Margaret Short. A landscape painter, drawing Thames views and living at 20 Circus Street, Greenwich, Kent who was elected to the New Society of Painters in Water Colours now the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1833. In 1851, a 57-year-old landscape painter, living at Dulas Cottage, Cusop, Hay-on-Wye, Breconshire, Wales with his 54-year-old wife Mary Margaret. He exhibited at the Suffolk Fine Arts Association at Ipswich in 1850 four watercolours 'Dulas Brook, at Hay', 'Brook Scene', 'Going to Market' and 'Cusop Mill, near Hay'. Thomas Lindsay died at Dulas Cottage, Cusop, near Hay, Brecknockshire on 23 January 1861, aged 67, leaving a widow Mary Margaret Lindsay, who died at Dulas Cottage, Hay on 24 March 1870, aged 73.
