LOCKIE, Jude
Judith A Lockie, was born in London in 1947, daughter of Kenneth Stewart Lockie (27 October 1910-22 May 1972), a production research engineer, and his wife Enid Kathleen née Morris (10 April 1912-3 April 2003), who married in North Surrey in 1941. Jude, as she is known, studied design at Guildford School of Art and travelled widely before going to Japan in 1975, to study woodblock printmaking with Yoshisuke Funasaka (born 1939) in Tokyo for two years. In 1977 she returned to London spending four years as a printmaker and commenced exhibiting in 1981 when she returned to Tokyo for a further year of studies, followed by nine months in Western Australia. Moving to Suffolk in 1983, setting up a print workshop for etching and woodblock printing in 1988, also teaching at Suffolk College. In 1997 and 1999 Jude was invited to run a woodblock print workshop as resident artist at The Naropa Institute, Boulder, Colorado. A member and exhibitor of the Suffolk Group of Artists and President and a Life Member of the Ipswich Art Society and exhibits in East Anglia and London and as Judith Lockie at the Royal Academy also showing internationally with exhibitions including Christchurch Mansion and John Russell Gallery, both in Ipswich. Her work is figurative, of both people and things seen and of the imagination, with an interest in colour and geometry. Jude is based at 7 Castle Street, Framlingham, Suffolk.
