Patrick Galvani

Patrick Dino Richard Gordon Galvani was born at St Edwards Cottage, Bures, Suffolk on 11 September 1922, son of actor & broadcaster, (Candido) Dino Galvani (27 October 1890-14 September 1960), and his wife Mary Steele née Allan (born 15 May 1900), who married at Wandsworth, London in 1921. Patrick was educated at University College School, Hampstead and University Campus Suffolk but is mostly a self-taught artist. He served as a naval lieutenant on landing craft during the Second World War, seeing action during the Normandy landings and later worked for the Naval Information Service before joining Express Dairies in 1948. He oversaw the company's conversion to self-service and later headed up their subsidiary Premier Supermarkets after opening Britain's first in 1951. He left Premier in 1963 later looking after Express Dairies canned food and tearoom businesses and in 1975 moved into hospitality in purchasing a Bedfordshire hotel that went on to win an 'AA' Rosette before he retired in 1986. He married at Hendon, Middlesex in 1948, Denise Nell (21 May 1924-2005) and secondly at Marylebone, London in 1970, Madeleine R Adams. A painter in oil and watercolour, journalist and author and has exhibited at Debenham, Framlingham and other Suffolk venues. He lived at Littlehampton, West Sussex and at 5 Gracechurch Street, Debenham, Suffolk. Patrick Dino Richard Gordon Galvani died on 19 December 2013, aged 91.
