MACE, John G
John E. G. Mace was born at Brentford, Middlesex in 1937, son of Chares W. Mace (7 November 1901-), a commercial traveller, and his wife Olive Ethel née Rice (20 October 1904-5 July 1994), who married at Hammersmith, London in 1929. John married at Ealing, London in 1961, Christine Bills. A well collected artist who paints in the best traditions of the Norwich School and often portrays Norfolk life in bygone times and is keenly interested in wildlife. Mace was a member of the Great Yarmouth & District Society of Artists and has had numerous exhibitions in Norfolk and Suffolk and his oil 'Walberswick Harbour' dated 1982 was auctioned in 2012. He donated a work to the 'Westhall Secret Postcard Auction' in 2013 'Two's Company' from 58 Elizabeth Fry Road, Norwich where he lived for over 30 years but moved to Dorking in Surrey. Many of the works offered are conflated with another Norfolk associated artist, John Edmund Mace (1889-1952) who signed his work 'John E. Mace' but the monogram of the younger artist is 'J.M.' as illustrated and the works shown here are by the younger John Mace.
