GARRETT, George Henry
George Henry Garrett was born at Victoria Terrace, 1 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich on 30 June 1838, and baptised at St Stephen's church, Ipswich on 4 August 1838, eldest child of Garrett Garrett (1808-23 June 1890), a steel bar merchant, and his wife Elizabeth Smyth (1818-1884), who was a sister of Edward Robert Smythe and Thomas Smythe, who married at Ipswich in 1837. In 1861, George was a 22-year-old artist, living at 172 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich with his parents, 52-year-old Garrett and 42-year-old Elizabeth, with ten siblings, including John Robert Garrett, all born in Ipswich. George married at Shrewsbury, Shropshire in 1866, Fanny Boucher (28 November 1840-) and in 1881, a 42-year-old photographic artist, living at Montague House, Atcham, Shrewsbury with his 40-year-old wife Fanny, and their six children, Elizabeth 13, Emmaline 12, Kate 10, Millicent 9, Geoffrey 5 and Rowland 1, all born at Shrewsbury and in 1891 an artist animal and portrait painter at the same address. George Henry Garrett, described as an artist, died at Fern Villa, Oak Street, Belle View, Shrewsbury on 26 November 1892, aged 54, leaving a widow.
