Jessie MacDonald was born at St Pancras, London on 3 September 1883, daughter of Thomas MacDonald (1846-28 July 1927), a banknote engraver, and his wife Mary C. (1845-1925), Jessie's father was the founder of the famous London firm of Thomas MacDonald & Son (Engravers) Ltd., banknote engravers. In 1901, a 17-year-old, living at 6 Barnsbury Terrace, Islington with her parents, 52-year-old Thomas, born Carlisle, Cumberland, 56-year-old Mary, born Scotland, and sibling brother Robert 21, born Islington, also a banknote engraver. In 1911, a 27-year-old, living at Rose Bank, Dacre, Penrith, Cumberland with her 64-year-old mother Mary, born at Hamilton, Scotland, her father was absent. In 1939, an invalid artist, living at The Green, Monk Soham, Suffolk with Mary Stebbing Du Pontet. Jessie MacDonald died at Dartford, Kent in 1958, she was unmarried.
