DU PONTET, Mary Stebbing

1909 - 1997

Mary Stebbing Du Pontet, was born at Hendon, Middlesex on 30 June 1909, second child of Clement Adolphe Auguste Du Pontet (1875-1950), a schoolmaster, and his wife Rachel Irene née Stebbing (1877-1913), who married at Marylebone, London in 1905. Mary was educated at Orley Farm School, Harrow, Middlesex and in 1911, Clement was a 35 year old with his 33 year old wife Irene, and their elder son Godfrey 4, and kept a school at Hillside, Peterboro Hill, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Middlesex, with with six boarding pupils. In 1939, Mary was an 'artist', living at The Green, Monk Soham, Suffolk with another artist Jessie MacDonald [q.v.] and she exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1960. She died at 89 Deodar Road, Putney, London on 6 November 1997, she was unmarried.
