JOSSELYN, Catherine Emily

Catherine Emily Josselyn was born at Ipswich on 11 July 1840 and baptised at St Mary-le-Tower Church, Ipswich on 25 August 1840, youngest daughter of George Josselyn (1 January 1807-27 May 1888), a solicitor, and his wife Elizabeth Browne Bell (31 May 1806-14 December 1881), only daughter of Capt. Robert Scarlet Browne Bell of the East India Company, who married at St Nicholas Church, Kings Lynn, Norfolk on 9 February 1831, Catherine was a sister to Rose Josselyn. Catherine studied at the Ipswich School of Art winning prizes in 1861-1862 and her still life oil painting of 1862 was highly commended. An initial committee member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1874, and exhibited 1883-1885 from Sproughton, Suffolk but does not seem to have exhibited again. Catherine Emily Josselyn was of 74 Redcliffe Gardens, South Kensington, London when she died at Ipswich on 16 August 1889 and was buried at Sproughton All Saints' Church three days later, she was unmarried.
