BLOOM, Detta Harvey
As Dorothy Elizabeth Mary MacFarlane, she was born at Frobisher Road, Hornsey, London on 11 September 1893, eldest of the daughters of Alexander Miller MacFarlane (1848-13 February 1919), manager of a textile exporting company, and his wife Mary Reid Blair (26 February 1867-1957), eldest daughter of Peter Blair of Rothesay, who married at Holly Park Presbyterian Church, Crouch Hill, London on 21 October 1890. In 1911, Detta, as she was known, was a 19-year-old art student, living at 10 Stanley Gardens, Cricklewood, London with her parents, 63-year-old Alexander and 44-year-old Mary, both from Scotland and sibling sister Jessie Edith Blair MacFarlane (19 January 1895-1956). Detta married at St George's Hanover Square, London in 1929, Joscelyn Harvey Bloom and in 1939, a housewife and art mistress, living at 'Stiles', Roseberry Road, Epsom, Surrey with her husband Joscelyn, a schoolmaster, but they later moved to Beccles in Suffolk. An artist and printmaker, painting landscape, still-life, and genre studies in oil and, like her husband, associated with the Beccles Society of Artists. She exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists and elsewhere. Dorothy Elizabeth Mary Harvey Bloom died at Ipswich in 1979, her name is sometimes hyphenated Harvey-Bloom.
