MANN, Eleanor
As Eleanor Jane Crompton-Couvela, she was born at Farnham, Surrey on 28 December 1967, second daughter of Anthony Brian Crompton-Couvela and his wife Juliet Elizabeth Marcia née Craig, who married at Wandsworth, London on 24 August 1962. Eleanor married at Bulmer parish church, Essex on 26 March 1988, Stephen Brian Mann, and paints under the name of Eleanor Mann. Eleanor worked for some years as a conveyancer before she fully realised her passion and became a full-time professional artist. A self-taught artist but has sought guidance from other artists whose work she admires, exploring different mediums and styles which has enriched her technical knowledge and encouraged her development as an artist. Eleanor paints in watercolour using pure, transparent pigments and has become well known for a series of four paintings 'Boxing Hares', 'Church Windows', 'Churches in Snow' and 'The River'. She is inspired to paint a range of subjects, ensuring that her portfolio is varied and, drawing on the difficulties that she experienced whilst teaching herself to paint, Eleanor is a member of the Suffolk Art Society and wrote a course aiming to teach others, and currently runs weekly classes, private tuition, and day-workshops throughout the year. Eleanor lives in Sudbury, Suffolk and regularly exhibits her work in and around Suffolk and Essex and as well as offering original paintings and selling prints and cards of her work. Eleanor is the author of 'The Watercolour Book, How to Paint Anything'.
