SPARKE, Kate Adeliza

1864 - 1939

Born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 27 November 1864 and baptised Adeliza Kate on 12 January 1865, second daughter of George Sparke, a turner, and his second wife Elizabeth née Cooper, who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1860, George's first wife was Assenath née Mott (1832-1857), who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1854 and had a son Frederick born 13 December 1857. In 1881, a 15 year old scholar living at 77 Guildhall Street, Bury St Edmund's with her parents, 50 year old George and 46 year old Elizabeth, who were both born at Clare, Suffolk, with sibling sister Isabella A. 19. As Miss K. Sparke, Bury, was highly commended for her oil 'Clay Hall, Fornham' at the Bury & Suffolk Art Society exhibition held at the Town Hall, Bury St Edmund's in 1886. She married at Bury St Edmund's in 1889, Edward Crook and moved to Norwich. In 1891, a 26 year old wife, living at Mill Road Hill, Norwich with her 29 year old husband Edward, a bank clerk, and their newly born son George Gustavus. In 1911, with Edward now a bank manager, they were living at 190 Unthank Road, Norwich with the addition of a daughter 13 year old Irene Gwendoline. In 1939 a widow living at 26 Christchurch Road, Norwich with two other ladies, and where she died in the same year, aged 74.
