WATERS, Derek George
Derek George Waters was born at Hadleigh, Suffolk in 1929, second child of George Honric Waters (11 January 1889-1969), a permanent way ganger, and his wife Jessie May née Newton (30 May 1893-28 June 1980), who married at Wangford, Suffolk in 1919 and in 1921 were living at 124 High Street, Hadleigh, Suffolk with their newly born daughter Sylvia Mary. In 1939 they were living at 66 Benton Street, Hadleigh and in 1941 his father arranged for him to attend the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing at Benton End, Hadleigh. Derek exhibited at Colchester Art Society but took up lithography as a career with the Ipswich firm of printers W. S. Cowell Ltd. He married at Ipswich in 1958, Elizabeth Holmes. Derek continued his association with Benton End until the death of Cedric Morris in 1982 and latterly moved to St Marys Avenue, Brentwood, Essex, and continued to paint for pleasure. Derek George Waters died at Brentwood, Essex on 17 July 2014.
