Roy Cottrell was born at Epping, Essex in 1938, son of Walter Albert Cottrell (1908-1937), a tailor's cutter, and his wife Dorothy Ellen née Sycamore, who married at Hackney, London in 1929 and they lived at Burnham Road, Chingford, Essex. A member and exhibitor at the Lavenham Art Society from Santiago, Sudbury Road, Lavenham, Sudbury, Suffolk.
