WHITEHEAD, Christina
As Christina Lilias Wingate Morrison, she was born at Kensington, London on 15 November 1893, only child of Wingate Morrison (1856-17 March 1922) and his wife Edith Anne Willes, daughter of George Fessey Willes, of Boddington House, Northamptonshire, who married at Howrah St Thomas Church, Bengal, India on 3 November 1888. In 1911, Christina was a 17-year-old scholar, living at 10 Field Stile Road, Southwold, Suffolk with her 45-year-old mother Edith, born at Priors Marston, Warwickshire, when Christina's father was in India. Christina married at Holy Trinity Church, Brompton, Kensington, London on 2 June 1923, Capt. Noel Tancred Whitehead (22 January 1888-8 May 1966) and painted under the name of Christina Whitehead. From about 1955 they lived at Strickland House, Park Lane, Southwold and where her husband, a retired Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps, died in 1966. Christina was a founder member and exhibitor at the Southwold Art Circle and was its one-time chairman and the Christina Whitehead Award for an oil painting, was inaugurated in her memory and an over-subscription second award was founded 'for other media'. Christina Lilias Wingate Whitehead died at Strickland House, Southwold on 14 January 1970.
