HAMMOND, Margaretta Ruth

1864 - 1895

Margaretta Ruth Hammond was baptised at St Mary’s church, Newmarket on 1 June 1864, youngest of the five children of Charles Eaton Hammond and his wife Emily Law Hammond née Wilson. A watercolour landscape artist and a member and exhibitor at Ipswich Fine Art Club 1883-1890 who, as Miss Eaton Hammond, exhibited from The Bank, Newmarket, Suffolk in 1883 a watercolour, 'In Sherwood Forest' and in 1885, 'Portrait of Miss Mary Allen, aged 76', she exhibited a further three works 1887-1890 including ‘Lincoln Minster’ and 'St Mary’s Church, Beverley’ (1890). Margaretta Ruth Hammond had been an invalid for several years and died at Newmarket on 21 April 1895 and buried in the local cemetery on 25 April 1895, aged 31, she was unmarried. Her sister was Emily Blanche Hammond.
