SUMMERFIELD, Chris
Christopher W. Summerfield studied for his Master's degree at the Royal College of Art in 1984 where he assisted with the work of sculptor Henry Spencer Moore (30 July 1898-31 August 1986). Summerfield was a senior lecturer in fine art, becoming acting subject leader in sculpture at Norwich University of the Arts 1991-2009. Sculptor Chris Summerfield is now focusing on his own creative work working full-time on work for exhibitions and on commission. His work is a response to both the natural and the manufactured world, between abstraction and representation, often producing 'toy-like' hybrids which echo the dreamlike world of childhood. He is exploring digital photography as an outcome for his artwork whilst continuing to produce stone sculptures. A member of the Royal Society of Sculptors and has exhibited widely including at Pilchard Palace Gallery, St Ives, Cornwall. He works from The Cut Halesworth, Suffolk.
