NEWCOMBE, Marion
As Marion E. Hockett, she was born at Leyton, Essex in 1948, daughter of Richard Hockett (28 January 1912-1988), a G.P.O. engineering labourer, and his wife Olivia Pauline née Evans (12 December 1912-1998), who married at Leyton, Essex in 1939. In 1939 they were living at 4 Cranleigh Road, Leyton, Essex. Marion was originally a painter in oil but now uses acrylic, watercolours and glazes for decoration. A bunch of flowers, birds, vegetables, beautiful Suffolk and Norfolk views, scenes of Italy and France, even old groynes on a beach or strata of rock are her inspiration to paint or pot. Marion does not 'throw', so potting is another way of creating out of clay from slab work. For the past few years, she has done 'Raku', another way with ceramics which adds another dimension with clay and is pursuing linocuts. A member of Waveney Springs Art Collective with a studio at Guildhall Cottage, The Street, Metfield, Harleston. Her partner Graham J. Newcombe (born 1948) is a potter at the same studio. She has exhibited at the Upstairs Gallery at Beccles, Suffolk.
