As Janet Dale, she married at Waveney, Suffolk in 1975, Kenneth M. Houchen (born 1946) and paints under the name of Jan Houchen. Jan is a self-taught artist, who paints in watercolour, ink, oil, and acrylic, she also works in detailed pencil and pastel work spending many hours on extensive local wild marshes with binoculars and a camera to capture images of wildlife. She travels regularly to remote parts of north-west Scotland and on annual camping safaris to Botswana and South Africa in the company of like-minded artists and photographers. Jan has donated paintings to Winterton-on-Sea seal rescue centre and to the Suffolk Horse Society. A member of the Lowestoft Art Group from her studio at Bulls Cottage, Holly Hill, Camps Heath, Lowestoft.
