BURGOYNE, Ray

1945 - ?

Raymond Burgoyne, was born at Southend-on-Sea, Essex in 1945, son of Joseph William Burgoyne (1 October 1908-1992), a carpenter, and his wife Doris Rose née Nash (1 December 1906-1979), who married at Rochford, Essex in 1932 and in 1939 were living at 58 Torquay Drive, Southend-on-Sea. Ray married at Chelmsford, Essex in 1986, Gillian P. Fleming. Painting generously in oils, the shapes tending to be geometric, but then a subtle almost whimsical piece will be delivered with a background in set creation in the theatre, and his work is typically minimal with strong and deep colours. Often collaborating in exhibitions with other artists such as Colin Slee [q.v.], Kate Giles [q.v.] and Emma Green [q.v.], Ray falls back on his theatre production and planning skills with consummate ease. He lives Blakes Cottage, Chases Lane, Friston, Saxmundham, Suffolk.
