BETNEY, Marguerite Beatrice
As Marguerite Beatrice Versey, she was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1924, youngest of the three children of Henry Beavis Versey (21 March 1883-1968), a fish salesman, later an auctioneer, and his wife Beatrice Eliza née Harper (19 February 1889-30 March 1966), who married at Lowestoft on 26 December 1907. In 1911, Henry and Beatrice were living at Holloway House, Shakespeare Avenue, Milford Haven with a newly born daughter Barbara Josephine but by 1921 were back living at 2 Carlton Villes, Victoria Road, Lowestoft now with two daughters Barbara J. 11, who was born at Lowestoft and Bettie B. 5, who was born at Newlyn, Cornwall. Marguerite married at St Mark's Church, Oulton Broad, Suffolk in July 1948, William Ernest Betney (21 June 1924-9 December 1997) and painted under the name of M. Betney. A member and exhibitor at the Beccles Society of Artists when living at Ashcroft, Mill Common, Halesworth, Suffolk and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1987. Marguerite Beatrice Betney died on 3 May 2015, she had two children, Rachel and William. She sometimes worked as Marguerite Versey Betney.
