WHALLEY, Emily
As Emily E. Whalley, she was born in Canada on 1 June 1953, youngest child of Arthur George Cuthbert Whalley (25 July 1915-27 May 1983), a professor at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and his wife Elizabeth née Watts (3 June 1916-) who married on 25 July 1944 and were of Ferry Lane, Bourne End, Buckinghamshire when in England. In 1983 Emily moved to Southwold, Suffolk and married in 1984 sculptor and artist Nicholas Pratt and they lived at Southwold in Suffolk. Unfortunately, their studio at 51 Ferry Road, Southwold, where they had lived with their children for over 30 years, was destroyed by fire in October 2013 but she continued living at Ferry Road, Southwold. She was the author of Margaret Mellis: A Life in Colour (2008).
