Liam Hennessy

Liam Michael Hennessy was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk in 1981, son of John Niall Hennessy [q.v.] and his wife Elizabeth A. née Wells [Hennessy q.v.]. Liam studied at Colchester School of Art gaining a B.A. (hons) Fine Art in 2012 and an M.A. (distinction) Sculpture in 2014. Influenced by early 20th century abstract artists like Paul Klee and Franz Ackermann, Liam paints with the idea that the surface of his canvas acts as a field of sensations and rhythms, and hovers between abstraction and representation. The artist applies his paint intuitively and directly, creating a visual record of his fleeting desires and thoughts. His work is a place where a myriad different influences cross pollinate and may synthesise with or contradict one another. He has exhibited at Roote The Truman Brewery, London; The Hay Gallery, Colchester; The Minories, Colchester; Stoke By Nayland Church, Nayland, Suffolk; Firstsite, Colchester and elsewhere. In January 2020, Liam Hennessy was one of the five artists featured as the 'Top Artists of 2019' by CANVAS, the blog of Saatchi Art. He is currently based at Cuckoo Farm Studios, Colchester, Essex and has worked on many private commissions including both individual and business clients.
