STRUTT, Gay
As Gabrielle Margaret Fison, she was born at Marylebone, London on 22 February 1932, daughter of Sir Frank Guy Clavering Fison (11 September 1892-13 April 1985), Member of Parliament, and his wife Evelyn Alice Mary née Bland (17 August 1901-27 July 1985), who married at Ipswich on 23 February 1922 and in 1939 were living at Stutton Hall, near Ipswich. Gay married at Ipswich on 10 January 1953, Hon. Peter Algernon Strutt (18 June 1924-27 October 2007), fourth child of Algernon Henry Strutt, 3rd Baron Belper (1883-1956) and eldest by his second wife Angela Mariota Tollemache and they had two sons and two daughters. Gay Strutt studied at the Chelsea School of Art and for many years attended Maggi Hambling's life drawing class at Morley College, London. She is naturally drawn to the Suffolk Stour Estuary where she grew up, and her personal response to the landscape of the estuary recalls the interest in atmosphere and weather effects of John Constable. The family had an estate at Stutton Hall and had other property in Ross-shire, Scotland and her work focuses on landscapes of Scotland, the Suffolk coast, and the island of Evia in Greece. Gay Strutt still lives at Stutton, near Ipswich.
