John Ridger

John Loton Ridger was born at Reigate, Surrey on 25 September 1920, son of Arthur Loton Ridger (3 January 1886-1940), a merchant, and his wife Veronica née Hynam (born 30 June 1889), who married at Paddington, London in 1920. In 1924, together with his 38-year-old father and 35-year-old mother, when of Barn Hill, Stamford, they sailed from Bristol on the 'Cavina' for British Honduras but, together with his mother, returned later in the year. In 1939 his mother Veronica and his sister Joan were living at 98 Anderton Park Road, Birmingham when his father was in Camberwell House Mental Hospital, Peckham Road, Camberwell, London and John was a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in the Second World War and taken prisoner at Salerno in Italy on 12 September 1943 and a war casualty 1944-1945. A retired headmaster and a Friend at Ipswich Art Society, when he exhibited from Dove Yard, Tacon Close, Eye, Suffolk in 2006, two oil paintings 'Still Life with Water' and 'Aging Sunflowers' and was a founder member and exhibitor at the Eye Arts Guild. He married his first wife, Winifred Wills Parr (28 December 1918-13 May 1990) in North Cotswold in 1953 and married secondly in the Depwade district of Suffolk in 1992, Cynthia May. John Loton Ridger died on 9 February 2016, being survived by his second wife and his children.
