COWLES, Eleanor Minnie

1913 - 2006

Eleanor Minnie Cowles was born at Stutton, Ipswich on 6 November 1913, daughter of Ernest Jasper Cowles (1875-30 July 1934), a market gardener, and his wife Amelia Marion née Smith (27 September 1874-6 November 1958), who married at Peasenhall, Suffolk in 1902. In 1939, her mother Amelia and Eleanor's elder sister Amelia Kathish (22 June 1905-1942) were still living at 'Hyams', Crowe Hall Road, Stutton. Eleanor studied at Selly Oak College, Birmingham and in 1945, religious studies at the University of London but by 1953 was back living at Hyams at Stutton. A Friend of the Ipswich Art Club and exhibited from 18c Fonnereau Road, Ipswich in 1978 'Old Cedar at Hasketon' and two pictures the following year and in 1990 from the same address 'The Year of the Poppy'. Eleanor Minnie Cowles died at Ipswich in May 2006; she was unmarried.
