CANNON, Albert
Albert Cannon was born at Sutton-at-Hone, Chatham, Kent in December 1840, son of Stephen Cannon, a miller, and his wife Emma née Cooper who married at Sutton in 1835. In 1841 a six-month-old baby living at Sutton Street, Dartford, Kent the home of the Gosling family and in 1851 a pupil at Bexley Heath Academy together with a younger brother Thomas 9. In 1861 an able seaman on the transport vessel 'Cressey' at sea. He married at Dartford, Kent in 1869, Charlotte Ann Green and after a couple of years as a millwright & engineer living at Palmerston Road, Carshalton, Surrey, by 1872 had settled in Ipswich as a commercial clerk at Packard's Chemical Works at Bramford, near Ipswich. In 1881, a 40-year-old commercial clerk at a chemical manufacturer, living at Orwell Lodge, Bramford Road, Ipswich with his 36-year-old wife Charlotte and their seven children, Albert Stuart 10, John Copper 8, both born at Carshalton, Alice Gertrude, Emily Florence 5, Mary Bertha 4, Hilda Constance 2 and newly born Evelyn Amy, all born in Ipswich. Edward Packard may have had something to do with him taking up art and Albert was a member of Ipswich Art Club from 1880, and assistant secretary, until his death but does not seem to have exhibited. Albert Cannon died at his home at 37 Upper Brook Street, Ipswich on 13 December 1889, aged 49, leaving a widow and eight children.
