Sydney Albert Sykes was born at Ashby de la Zouche, Leicestershire in June 1943, son of Charles Edward Sykes (23 March 1913-1990), a driver, and his wife Mary Ellen née Fellows (29 March 1915-1971), who married at Whitwick Parish Church, Leicestershire on 28 August 1937 and in 1939 were living at 41 Main Street, Barrow-upon-Soar, Leicestershire. Sydney studied at Loughborough College of Art and Design, before qualifying from the University of Leicester as an art teacher. He married at Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire in 1966, Annette Bosworth. Sydney left teaching to pursue a successful international design and merchandising career which enabled him to develop a keen photographic eye and, combined with his accomplished draughtsmanship and his attention to detail, is to be found in his paintings. Based at Double Street, Framlingham, Suffolk, Sydney's distinctive landscapes and still-life pictures in both watercolour and oils are proving collectable. Author of 'Country Diary Book of Decorating' (1990).
