Sidney A Sykes, was born at Ashby de la Zouche, Leicestershire in 1943, son of Charles Edward Sykes (23 March 1913-1990), a lorry driver, and his wife Mary Ellen née Fellows (29 March 1915-1971), who married at Ashby de la Zouche in 1937 and in 1939 were living at 41 Main Street, Barrow-upon-Soar, Leicestershire. Sydney studied at Loughborough College of Art & Design, before qualifying from Leicester University as an art teacher and married at Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire in 1966, Annette Bosworth. He left teaching to pursue a successful international design and merchandising career which enabled Sydney to develop a keen photographic eye and combined with his accomplished draughtsmanship and his attention to detail is to be found in his paintings. Based at Double Street, Framlingham, Suffolk, Sydney's distinctive landscapes and still-life pictures in both watercolour or oils are proving collectable.
