STEARN, Phil
Philip W. Stearn was born in the Hartismere district of Suffolk on 11 August 1963, son of Roger F. Stearn and his wife Patricia A. née Everall, who married at Coventry in 1963. A teacher at Claydon High School in Suffolk since 1988 and during his first year was the Artist in Residence. Philip studied at Suffolk College for two years and, towards the end of the second year, specialised in ceramics. After leaving College in 1993 he worked for a year at the Le Dieu Pottery in Norwich, after which he studied ceramics for three years at West Surrey College of Art & Design followed by a year Post Graduate Certificate Education teaching course. During this time, he ran a pottery evening class for seven years and has lectured and tutored on Suffolk Education Authority courses as well as at privately run workshops. Throughout his teaching career Philip has produced his own artwork in a variety of media but occasionally works in ceramics but most of his work is now drawings, mixed media, and photography. Phil exhibited 'Art at the Park' at Tomo Industrial Estate, Stowmarket 1989 and 'Futures' Work at Claydon High School; Association of Suffolk Art Teachers; 'Art in Reaction', Yoxford Gallery and at 'Crafts Showcase' travelling exhibition; 'A Family Affair' Rookyard Farm Old Newton; 'Ceramic Contemporaries' V & A London; Cusp Gallery, Burleigh House, Stamford; Harlequin Gallery, Greenwich, London; Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery and elsewhere. He married in Suffolk in 1984, Paula A. Evans and they had one son, Laurence and lived at Stowmarket, Suffolk.
