RUTHERFORD, Ronald Kerr
Ronald Kerr Rutherford was born at Banstead, Epsom, Surrey on 17 July 1913, third son of Henry Kerr Rutherford (15 August 1886-12 July 1972), a former tea planter and a director of Partnerfirma von A. M. Luther AG, and his wife Dorothea Elisabeth Olga née Luther (28 February 1890-22 April 1956), who married at Nicholai Kirche in Tallinn, Estonia in 1910 and moved to England in 1912. At the age of 18, Ronald spent some time in Estonia in the studio of a Russian artist, with whom he studied icon painting. He then trained at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London after which he practiced as an architect in England and in Rhodesia now Zimbabwe, before retiring in 1973. During the following years he concentrated on his art, living at Southwold, Suffolk and was a member of the Southwold Art Circle. He later moved away from Suffolk and Ronald Kerr Rutherford died at Forest Row, East Sussex on 22 November 2004.
