CROMMELIN, Ainslie Garrett
Ainslie Garrett Crommelin was born in London on 18 November 1826 and baptised at St Mary’s Church, Marylebone Road, London on 16 January 1827, son of Charles Barker Crommelin (1790-1827) and his wife Emelia Ellen née Ricketts (1801-1842). Ainslie married at Marblen, India on 2 April 1856, Julia Hankin (1835-1908) and they had eight children. In 1881, a civil engineer on Indian service, living at Iona, Anglesea Road, Ipswich with his 46-year-old wife Julia, three daughters, Ethel Margaret 20, born in London, Amy 18, Annie 15, and son Frank Arden 12, all born in India, keeping two indoor servants. Listed as a member of Ipswich Art Club but this was his daughter Ethel Margaret Crommelin. By 1891, he and his family, had moved to 40 Linden Road, Bedford, and Ainslie Garrett Crommelin of Bedford, died at Northampton on 10 June 1900, aged 74.
