William Francis Paul

William Francis Paul, was born at Ipswich in 1850, son of Robert Paul, corn merchant, and his wife Elizabeth née Woods, who married at Stowmarket, Suffolk in 1835, when Elizabeth was 18. In 1851, a one year old, living at Bank Street, Ipswich with his parents, 43 year old Robert and 33 year old Elizabeth, and four elder siblings, Elizabeth 14, Selina 12, Ellen 10 and Robert J. 6. He married firstly at Norwich in 1874, Jessie Eliza Mary Springall (1853-1887) and in 1881, a 31 year old corn merchant, living at Hill Side, Fonnereau Road, Ipswich with his 27 year old wife Jessie and their four children, Bernard 5, Ida Jessie Paul [q.v.], Hugh Francis 2 and Stuart 1, and retained five indoor servants. His wife Jessie died in 1887, aged 34, when William married again in London the following year Ida Florence Lankester and in 1901, a 51 year old grain merchant, living at Orwell Lodge, Belstead Road, Ipswich with his 34 year old wife Ida, six children, including three by his new wife, Cyril Lankester 9, Marjorie Florence 7 and Audrey Frances 2, and retained seven indoor servants. A Life Member of the Ipswich Art Club 1913-1927 but did not exhibit. He died at Orwell Lodge, Ipswich on 4 April 1928, aged 78 and buried in Ipswich cemetery.
