PAUL, William Francis
William Francis Paul was born at Bank Street, Ipswich on 11 February 1850, son of Robert Paul (6 June 1807-8 November 1864), a corn merchant, and his wife Elizabeth née Woods (1815-3 June 1897), who married at Stowmarket, Suffolk on 8 September 1835, when Elizabeth was 19. In 1851, William was a one-year-old, living at Bank Street, Ipswich with his parents, 43-year-old Robert and 33-year-old Elizabeth, and four elder siblings, Elizabeth 14, Selina 12, Ellen 10 and Robert J. 6. William married firstly at Norwich on 27 August 1874, Jessie Eliza Mary Springall (27 September 1853-20 November 1887) and in 1881, was a 31-year-old corn merchant, living at Hill Side, Fonnereau Road, Ipswich with his 27-year-old wife Jessie and their four children, Bernard 5, Ida Jessie, Hugh Francis 2 and Stuart 1, and they retained five indoor servants. His wife Jessie died at Hill Side in 1887, aged 34, when William married again in the City Temple, Holborn, London on 18 Oct 1888, Ida Florence Lankester (19 April 1866-25 June 1965) and in 1901, a 51 year old grain merchant, living at Orwell Lodge, Belstead Road, Ipswich with his 34 year old wife Ida, six children, including three by his new wife, Cyril Lankester 9, Marjorie Florence 7 and Audrey Frances 2, and retained seven indoor servants. A Life Member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1913-1927 but did not exhibit. William Francis Paul died at Orwell Lodge, Ipswich on 4 April 1928, aged 78 and buried in Ipswich cemetery.
