LONGE, Robert
Robert Longe was born at Coddenham, Suffolk on 6 November 1800 and baptised on 7 December 1800, fourth child of Revd John Longe (6 April 1765-3 March 1834) and his first wife Charlotte née Browne (1761-1812), who married at Norwich on 2 November 1790, and she was buried at Coddenham on 29 May 1812. On the death of his father in 1834, Robert succeeded him as vicar of Coddenham and where he remained until his death. When Robert was aged 15, the family made a visit to Roche Abbey in Yorkshire, when they were accompanied by Margaret Douglas Davy, who lived at the nearby Suffolk village of Combs, whom Robert married at Barking, Suffolk on 7 October 1828 and they had four children. He was the uncle of Louisa Roberta Longe and grandfather of William Verner Longe. Robert exhibited at the Needham Market Fine Arts & Industrial Exhibition at the Town Hall on 11 July 1867, and as the Rev. Longe an initial committee member of Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1874 and was a member 1875-1879 from Coddenham Vicarage but does not seem to have exhibited. Robert Longe died at Coddenham on 27 January 1890, aged 89. His wife Margaret Douglas Longe, who was also said to be an artist, was born at Combs, Suffolk on 26 May 1798 and died at Coddenham on 30 September 1873, and buried at Coddenham on 6 October.
