FONNEREAU, Katherine Georgiana
As Katherine Georgiana Cobbold, she was baptised at Eye, Suffolk on 28 February 1806, third daughter of John Cobbold (1774-12 February 1860) of Holywells, Ipswich, and his wife Harriet Temple née Chevallier (1775-27 October 1851), who married at Aspall, Suffolk on 8 November 1796. Also known as Kate, she married at St Clements church, Ipswich on 3 January 1832, Revd William Charles Fonnereau (21 June 1806-30 July 1855), of Christchurch, Ipswich. Katherine was a prolific artist, painting portraits of various members of the family, including one of her husband William and 'A Sunset and Shipping Scene' and exhibited at the Suffolk Fine Arts Association in August 1850 'A Sketch', she also exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition an inlaid octagon box. As Mrs Fonnereau, Sen. an exhibitor at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1882 from Richmond Lodge, Exeter, two tapestry paintings 'Birds' and 'Stork' and was a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1884-1885 from 18 Cambridge Street, Hyde Park, London showing two watercolours in 1884, 'The Parley at the Gate' and 'Queen of the May' and in 1885 'Our Lifeboat'. Katherine Georgiana Fonnereau died at Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 12 August 1885 and buried at Tuddenham St Martin, near Ipswich, they had five children.
