COBBOLD, John Dupuis

1861 - 1929

John Dupuis Cobbold was born at The Cliff, Ipswich on 11 March 1861, son of John Patteson Cobbold (1831-1875) and his wife Adele Harriette, daughter of Revd George John Dupuis, vice-provost of Eton College, who married at Eton College on 29 April 1858. John was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating B.A. in 1883. A Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for Suffolk and High Sheriff in 1901 and Mayor of Ipswich 1914-1915. He married at All Saints' Church, Cairo, Egypt on 23 April 1891, Lady Evelyn Murray (17 July 1867–January 1963), eldest daughter of Charles Adolphus, 7th Earl of Dunmore and they had three children, Winifred Evelyn (1892–1965), Ivan Cobbold (1897–1944) and Pamela Cobbold (1900–1932), before a separation from her husband in 1922. A Life Member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1913-1928 but did not exhibit. John Dupuis Cobbold died at Holywells, Ipswich on 12 June 1929
