COBBOLD, Adele Harriette
As Adele Harriette Dupuis, she was born at Eton, now in Berkshire, on 1 February 1837, daughter of Revd George John Dupuis (12 December 1795-22 November 1884), vice-provost of Eton College and rector of Creeting St Mary, Suffolk, and his wife Julia Maria Roberts (11 December 1803-1866), daughter of William Hayward Roberts, vice provost of Eton College and rector of Worplesdon, near Guildford, who married on Worplesdon, Surrey on 2 August 1831. Adela was married by her uncle, Revd Harry Dupuis, at Eton College Chapel on 20 April 1858, to John Patteson Cobbold (12 July 1831–10 December 1875) and they had eight children. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1899-1915 and, as Mrs J. Patterson Cobbold, exhibited from The Grove, Ipswich in 1901 nine watercolours 'A Day at Syracuse', 'Gurgente', 'Vesuvius Sunset', 'Srindgur', 'Early Morning, Kashmir', 'Olive Groves, Palmi', 'In a Mogul Garden' and two entitled 'Taormina' but but does not seem to have exhibited again until eight years later in 1909 when she had nine pictures of Norwegian scenes on show. Adele Harriette Cobbold died at The Grove, Ipswich on 9 November 1917.
