BOER, John
John Boer was born at Ipswich in 1871, second child of Edward William Boer (1844-1910), a boot & shoemaker, and his wife Margaret née MackNess (1848-18 February 1909), who married at Mile End, London in 1866. By 1869 the family had moved to 3 Parade Field Terrace, St Margaret's, Ipswich and in 1881, John was a 9-year-old, living at 8 Arthur Terrace, St Matthew's, Ipswich with his parents, 36-year-old Edward,who was born at Stafford, and 32-year-old Margaret, who was born in London and four siblings, Margaretta 6, Francis W. 3, Edward 2 and newly born Arthur, an elder brother Edward Frances had died in 1874, aged 5, all born in Ipswich. John studied at the Ipswich School of Science and Art, passing his drawing examinations in 1887-1888 but took up his father's trade as a boot & shoemaker. John married at Sudbourne Chapel, Suffolk in 1894, Annie Elizabeth Jane Harvey (21 January 1876-1 February 1953) and in 1911, a 39-year-old 'boot rivetter' living at 47 Cemetery Road, Ipswich with his 34-year-old wife and three children, Dorothy Molloy 14, Muriel 10 and Cecil 5. A member and exhibitor at the Ipswich Art Club 1934-1936 from 258 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich exhibiting in 1935 an oil 'Belstead Road, Ipswich' and a watercolour 'Holly'. John Boer died at 47 Whitby Road, Ipswich on 14 January 1937, aged 65.
