WOODARD, Fred

1904 - 1988

Frederick Stanley Woodard was born at 3 Withipoll Street, Ipswich on 28 March 1904, son of Jabez Woodard (1864-1926), a paper-bag agent, and his wife Harriett née Alderton (1863-1920), who married at Ipswich in 1889. In 1911, Frederick was a 7-year-old scholar, still at Withipoll Street, Ipswich with his parents, Jabez 47 and Harriet 48, with three siblings, Rowland 19, Harry 18 and Violet 14. A self-taught painter with most of his work being landscapes in acrylic which were painted after his retirement in 1968. He married in Ipswich in 1932, Emily Bertha Mortimer (17 June 1913-14 October 2009) and their son was Adrian Woodard. A member of the Ipswich Art Society from 54 Henley Road, Ipswich and exhibited annually, including in 1985 'Apples' and 'Chalk Quarry-Approaching Storm' and he also exhibited with the Frederick Gallery, Raveningham, Norfolk and Haste Gallery, Ipswich. Frederick Stanley Woodard died at Ipswich in 1988.
