THURSTON, Rosalie Winifred

1905 - 1991

Rosalie Winifred Thurston, was born at 5 Alma Street, Plymouth, Devon on 26 April 1905, daughter of Hugh Kingsmill Neville Thurston (24 September 1865-11 October 1950), sub-agent of the Bank of England, and his wife Winifred Frances née Peel (30 April 1877-21 November 1953), who married at Brighton, Sussex in 1904, and in 1911 were living at 48 Well Walk, Hampstead, London. In 1911, Rosalie was living with her 69 year old widowed grandmother, Elizabeth Peel at her home at 8 Boscombe Road, Christchurch, Bournemouth. Rosalie studied at Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts, Edgbaston and at the Central School of Art and Design in Chelsea, London. In 1939, an art teacher, living at Little Combe Heathside, Park Road, Woking, Surrey with her parents Hugh and Winifred. A landscape and architectural painter, who exhibited at the Royal Academy; Royal Society of British Artists; Society of Women Artists and elsewhere. A member of the Society of Mural Painters and the Women's International Art Club and lived for many years at Spring House, Prior's Way, Aldeburgh, Suffolk and she died at Kinton, Alde House Drive, Aldeburgh on 11 March 1991, she was unmarried.
