THURSTON, Rosalie Winifred
Rosalie Winifred Thurston was born at 5 Alma Street, Plymouth, Devon on 26 April 1905, daughter of Hugh Kingsmill Neville Thurston (24 September 1865-11 October 1950), a sub-agent of the Bank of England, and his wife Winifred Frances Peel (30 April 1877-21 November 1953), only daughter of George H. Peel of 21 Vernon Crescent, Sussex, Brighton, who married at St Nicholas Church, Brighton on 2 June 1904. In 1911 her parents were living at 48 Well Walk, Hampstead, London whilst Rosalie was living with her 69-year-old widowed grandmother, Elizabeth Peel at her home at 8 Boscombe Road, Christchurch, Bournemouth. Rosalie studied at Birmingham School of Art, Edgbaston and at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Chelsea, London. In 1939, an art teacher, living at Little Combe Heathside, Park Road, Woking, Surrey with her parents Hugh and Winifred. A landscape and architectural painter, who exhibited at the Royal Academy also showing at the Royal Society of British Artists; the Society of Women Artists and elsewhere. A member of the Society of Mural Painters and the Women's International Art Club and lived for many years at Spring House, Prior's Way, Aldeburgh, Suffolk. Rosalie Winifred Thurston died at Kinton, Alde House Drive, Aldeburgh on 11 March 1991, she was unmarried.
