SCOTT, Eric Ronald
Eric Ronald Scott was born at Madras, India on 31 January 1904 and baptised on 24 March 1904, youngest son of Thomas Ridsdale Scott (5 September 1852-20 June 1908), an English professor in Madras, and his wife Alicia Lorenz Andree (11 August 1861-19 April 1915), daughter of John Henry Andree, who married at Madras on 6 August 1877. Eric came to England in 1924 and earned his living as an electrical engineer until 1950, when he became a full-time painter and illustrator. Eric married at the Church of St Lawrence, Skellingthorpe, Lincoln on 1 September 1933, Marjorie Lilian Bradbury (27 June 1907-7 October 1996), eldest daughter of William Henry Bradbury of Lincoln. In 1939, Eric was a chartered electrical engineer living at Moana, Nightingale Lane, Bromley, Kent with his wife and son Richard Scott. A mostly self-taught painter, although he did have life classes at Bromley School of Art in the 1940s. He exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer exhibition also showing at the Royal Society of British Artists. In 1950 the family moved to Samphire Cottage at Walberswick, Suffolk and he became a member and exhibitor at Ipswich Art Club 1952-1960 and exhibited oil paintings from Samphire Cottage, Walberswick in 1951 'Red House Farm, Westleton' and 'High Street, Yoxford', in 1952 'The Shire Hall, Woodbridge', 'Winter Afternoon near Snape' and 'Morning Cloud, Walberswick', in 1958 four works 'Ringstead Farm, Hunstanton', 'St George's Yacht Yard, Walberswick', 'Afternoon near Iken' and 'Beeches near Butley', in 1959 'Snape Bridge, Suffolk', 'Morning on the Blyth, Walberswick', 'Storm across the Blyth Estuary' and 'Blythburgh at Mid-day'. Two of his Walberswick paintings were commissioned by British Railways for reproduction as carriage panels and two others, 'Ferry Knoll' and 'Valley Farm' were exhibited in The Walberswick Enigma Exhibition at Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich in 1994. Eric Ronald Scott was of Samphire Cottage, Walberswick when he died at the Ipswich & East Suffolk Hospital on 8 July 1960, aged 56.
