JACOB, Romy

1926 - 2005

As Rosemary Elizabeth Allen Shuter, she was born at Chelmsford, Essex on 8 June 1926, daughter of Leonard Robert Shuter (21 March 1887-1960) and his wife Alice Margaret née Foote (12 January 1891/3-1977), who married at Bath, Somerset in 1916. As Romy Jacob, an artist in various media, who travelled to Spain, France and Italy for her paintings. Anna Airy [q.v.] and Cecil Collins (1908-1999) were influences on Jacob's work and, together with Jenny Spencer, she exhibited watercolours at Clarges Gallery 1996 and has also exhibited at Drian Galleries and at Galleria Numero in Rome. As Miss R. Shuter, a member and exhibitor at the Ipswich Art Club in 1948 and she married at Woodbridge in the same year, John Claud Jacob (1925-2005) but exhibited at Ipswich as Mrs R. Shuter from 1949. In 1997 Romy exhibited from 55 Seckford Street, Woodbridge 'Foxgloves'. She died at Woodbridge on 22 August 2005.
