BACON, Henry Francis

1831 - 1902

Henry Francis Bacon, was born at George Street, Bermondsey, London on 12 December 1831 and baptised at St George the Martyr, Southwark, London on 21 October 1832, son of William Thomas Bacon (1797-1862), a fishmonger, and his wife Sarah Ann née Carter, who married at St Mary, Newington on 31 August 1822. In 1851, a 19 year old architect, living at Billingsgate, St Mary-at-Hill, City of London with his parents, 54 year old William and 48 year old Sarah Ann, with siblings William Thomas 27, George Alfred 21, both fishmongers, Hannah Maria 17, Eliza 14, Stephen Frederick 5, all born in London. In 1871, Henry was a 39 year old architect, living at Sidcup Park, Chislehurst with his widowed mother and Henry married at St Mary's, Standon, Hertfordshire on 8 October 1872, Maria England Woodcock (1845-1915). In 1881, a 49 year old architect, living at 25 Hatter Street, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk with his 35 year old wife Maria, born at Ware with their children Nancy 7, Charles William 5, Constance Mary 4 and 2 year old Francis Edward, all born at Chislehurst, Kent, they had four more children John Collingwood 1882, Hilda Frances 1885, Dorothy Felicite 1887 and Phyllis born 1890. In 1882 he exhibited at the Bury St Edmunds Fine Art Society held at J. W. Clarke's Photographic Rooms, Bury St Edmund's. By 1891 he had moved to Clifton Villas, Lansdowne Road, Aldershot, Farnham, Hampshire and by 1901 to St Peter's Hospital, 40 East Hill, Wandsworth where he died on 3 July 1902
