PHILLIPPS, Florence March
Florence Charemille March Phillipps was born in Middlesex around 1823, daughter of Rt. Hon. Samuel March Phillipps (14 July 1780-11 March 1862), M.P, Under-Secretary of State, Home Department, and his wife Charity Emilia née Grant (11 April 1785-25 May 1826), who married in Herefordshire on 17 October 1812. In 1861, Florence was 37-year-old, living at Radnor Villa, St Ann's Road, Upton-on-Severn, Worcestershire with her 80-year-old widower father, a privy councillor, and a sibling Adelaide 34, and an unmarried aunt Sibyllia 72, who was born in India, and they retained six servants. In 1881, Florence was 'single with income from investments', living at Hitcham Hall, near Ipswich with her 56-year-old widowed brother Alfred Lisle March Phillipps (1824-3 September 1887), a retired Indian civil service, and her 22-year-old niece Mary March Phillipps, born in Devon and they retained three indoor servants. As Miss March Phillips[sic] of Hitcham, she exhibited at the Bury St Edmund's Fine Art Society in 1882. Florence Charemille March Phillipps died at Hitcham Hall on 23 April 1898, aged 74, leaving an estate in Bengal, India and in England, she was unmarried.
