Marcella Cooper

Marcella Cooper was born at Wimbledon, South London and went to work with horses, eventually pursuing a career that brought her to Newmarket, there, she found a home, a husband and eventually, had two children. A mature graduate of Suffolk College, Ipswich gaining a B.A. (hons) degree in Fine Art. Inspired by encounters with the Suffolk’s wildlife her lino-prints and paintings embrace an interplay between truth and a sense of the mystical often against a backdrop of moonlight or as the sun rises, yields her paintings and prints, as well as domestic scenes inspired from daily life. When an image would not work as a lino-print Marcella found herself reverting to paint with 'Luna' becoming the first painting she had completed in many years. It then became evident that her approach to painting had become influenced by the simpler images produced during the printing process and this in turn began her new work, which evolved to become more naïve in style. Marcella is an artist for Green Pebble Cards and has her work in galleries throughout East Anglia including at Church Street Gallery, Saffron Walden, Essex and at Primavera Gallery, Cambridge. A member of Suffolk Open Studios from her studio at Pear Tree Cottage, 4 The Street, Dalham, Newmarket, Suffolk.
